We are more than courtroom attorneys.
We are trusted counselors.

We specialize in commercial litigation in state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels. However, our firm offers more than just courtroom representation. We deliver practical business advice and creative solutions with an eye on results. As a boutique firm, we give every client our personal attention, without delegating responsibility to inexperienced associates. Although we are a small firm, we regularly partner with other firms and lawyers as required to augment our capacities to suit the task at hand. We also have relationships with tax, accounting, and forensic experts, who are at our disposal.

We strive to resolve disputes and achieve long term benefits in an efficient and cost effective manner. We are pleased that, although we are a small firm, lawyers from some of the most prestigious firms in New York are comfortable referring clients to us. We have represented many of our clients for decades, some of whom we first met as adversaries. We are also general counsel to a number of foundations and companies, including The Joan Mitchell Foundation, Rolling V Bus Corporation, Vallo Transportation, Ltd., and The Weeks-Lerman Group LLC.

We offer business acumen, know our way around the courthouse, and have a combination of over sixty years of experience in the following areas.

Art Law

We represent clients in a wide variety of Art Law issues, including contract negotiations, employment issues, loan agreements, agency contracts, copyright and trademark work and dispute resolution. Representative clients include The Joan Mitchell Foundation, Bernarducci Gallery Chelsea, and Christian Francis Roth.

Real Estate

We represent commercial landlords and tenants, co-op, and condo owners in litigation in state and federal courts. We successfully represented real estate investors with respect to their fraud claim involving a $50 million commercial building, and in the process established the leading appellate authority on the statute of limitations for fraud claims; crafted an extremely favorable litigation settlement on behalf of a large hedge fund tenant in the GM Building arising out of disruptive construction work; represented the owner of a $45 million office tower in a real estate partnership dissolution; established the right of a Soho building owner to use an exterior wall for advertising purposes pursuant to an 1868 party wall agreement; and represented a chain of stationary stores in a series of lease disputes.

Business and Corporate

We have been involved in the formation and dissolution of both business and not-for-profit corporations, and counseled clients with respect to corporate buyouts; shareholder oppression cases; LLC disputes; dissolution of partnerships; and contracts for the procurement of goods and services. In contract related matters, our clients range from a nationally-recognized fine arts foundation, to a multi-county school bus operator, to a large office supply company. We advised heirs to a large estate with respect to the resolution of potential disputes, which permitted them to go separate ways while keeping a wholly-owned industrial manufacturing company in place. We obtained a six-figure judgment for a nationally recognized wine merchant in connection with theft of its customer list, and have counseled other clients in a broad spectrum of commercial contract disputes.

Employment

We have negotiated employment contracts and termination packages for senior managers at an international entertainment conglomerate, multinational financial institutions, and hedge funds. We have recovered over $16 million dollars in securities industry arbitrations on behalf of firm members, and have counseled other securities and media industry professionals with respect to restrictive covenants and confidentiality agreements. We successfully defended a manufacturer in a multi-million dollar federal employment discrimination lawsuit, and have recovered damages on behalf of employees in particularly egregious cases of workplace discrimination. We also recovered over $1.6 million from a disability insurer on behalf of a psychiatrically-disabled executive.
